Additional Twitter Help: Hashtags
The # symbol, called a hashtag, is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet. Hashtags help you find interesting Tweets.
- People use the hashtag symbol # before relevant keywords in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets
to show more easily in Twitter Search.
- Clicking on a hashtagged word in any message shows you all other Tweets in that category.
- Hashtags can occur anywhere in the Tweet.
- The hashtag we are using for Industry Days is #ABID2011. You can search for information about
Industry Days by typing this hashtag into the search box.
Additional Twitter Help: Re-Tweets
Retweeting is how Twitter users share interesting tweets from the people they are following with those who follow them. They copy and paste the original tweet and send it out. To give credit to the original person, users usually put “RT” plus the originator’s username at the beginning of the tweet. Here’s an example:
- The Twitter user @AFCEABelvoir tweets: Registration open! AFCEA Belvoir Industry Days 2011 to be held March 28-30 at the Gaylord in National Harbor: http://ow.ly/3MAUg #ABID2011
- You retweet by posting RT @AFCEABelvoir Registration open! AFCEA Belvoir Industry Days 2011 to be held March 28-30 at the Gaylord in National Harbor: http://ow.ly/3MAUg #ABID2011
